Abstract
This book addresses, in a simple and concise manner, the main topics of clinical biochemistry applied to veterinary medicine. To this end, the knowledge is built from the structural and functional characteristics of biomolecules and their insertions in metabolic pathways, passing through the metabolic disorders in which they participate, and culminating with the clinical correlations and their diagnostic interpretations.
The text is concerned with making clinical biochemistry understandable to undergraduate students, an understanding that is often hindered by complexity, lack of integration between topics, and the amount of available literature. Although the text has been written primarily with students in mind, veterinarians from different areas of the profession will also find information relevant to clinical practice, as well as other professionals in the agricultural and biomedical sciences.
The content of this book reflects more than thirty years of experience of its authors as teachers in the area of veterinary clinical biochemistry in renowned universities in Colombia and Brazil. This work had its first Portuguese-language edition published in 2003, followed by two more, revised and expanded, in 2006 and 2017, all under the auspices of Editora da Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul, in Porto Alegre (Brazil). This edition, the first in Spanish, is the result of the joint work of that Editora with Editorial Unillanos, in Villavicencio (Colombia), having been revised and expanded.
